Welcome to our glacier course at Svartisen, which is designed for you who wish to go out and explore by yourself in a safe way! We will follow the Norwegian standard (NF Grunnkurs) and will be able to give you a certificate at the end of the course.

TĂĄkeheimen is located at Svartisen and has one of the country’s most stunning locations. The cabin is nominated to be the most remote cabin in Norway which makes the drive, boat ride and hike extraordinarily beautiful. In fact, the drive there is one of the most beautiful in Norway!

Instructors: Lars Bukkehave & Maria Winther

Language: English, Danish & Norwegian

Price: DKK 6.150,- pr person

Requirements: You have to be able to hike at least 10 km with a 20 kilo backpack. Most importantly is that you love being outdoors 🙂

DAY FOR DAY

Day 1 – Monday: Fly to Bodø where we will rent a car to drive out of F17 to Holandsvika, one of the most stunning roads of Norway! From here we will transfer to a small boat taking us across the scenic river to the Svartisen / Fonndalen where we will spend our first night in a hut located with the views to the fjords.
Once arrived we will go through all the gear, divide it together with the food into our backpacks.
Note: all transportation to Fonndalen is not included in the price.

Day 2 – Tuesday: After a good breakfast we will hike up to TĂĄkeheimen hytta. The hike is about 6 km with 1200 height meters and therefore requires good hiking shape, but it will all be worth it!

The day is not over yet! When we arrive at the hut we will be looking right out to the glacier – so we of course have to go out and get out on the ice, use the equipment and start learning the basics.

Day 3 – Wednesday: We will wake up in the morning with stunning views of the glacier, where we will go out and explore. Today our focus will be on navigation on a glacier, how we use the rope, crampon technique and glacier equipment, while moving around on the ice – learning by doing.

Day 4 – Thursday: In order to learn to move around in a safe way on a glacier, we will today focus on rope team routines in more advanced ice and go explore the glacier – maybe find the crevasses we can play around in or some Moulins.

Day 5 – Friday: We will add more tools to our toolbox today, by practicing the rescue procedures of a person, once fallen into a crevasse. This can be done in many different ways:

– Hoist systems (minimum 1:2 and maybe we’ll go through 1:3)
– Unloading of rope teams and methods for rescuing the first person in a rope team on blue ice
– Methods for buddy rescue on glaciers in rope teams of minimum 3 people

Day 6 – Saturday: After 3 days of filling out the toolbox is it now time for the hike back to Fonndalen.
We can all look back to days of learning both hard and soft skills.

The program can change due to snow amount, temperature and wind. But we promise that you will get a lot of training on the glacier no matter what.

Included:
Instruction all 6 days
Stay at a hut in the valley of Fonndalen for 1 night + TĂĄkeheimen hytta for 4 nights
Rental of climbing equipment (if you got your own, bring it)

Not Included:
Travel to and from Fonndalen (we recommend flying into Bodø. From here we will take the bus to Holandsvika and then take the ferry over to Fonndalen/Svartisen)
